Lingjie Xia
CONCEPT / SYNOPSIS OF THE WORK
The work explores the author’s relationship with her mother through the Chinese mythological figure of Nüwa, associated with the serpent—a recurring presence in her nightmares. The piece creates a tension between protection and control, dependency and the desire for autonomy, intertwining family memory, fear, and hallucination. After attempting to break free from this bond, what remains is the acknowledgment of the life and love received, along with the hope that it was all just a bad dream.
