Chiara Cardinali

CONCEPT / SYNOPSIS OF THE WORK

The restoration of the Crucifixion of Cottanello addressed an insoluble patina of calcium oxalate and residues from previous cleanings. The surface was treated using an erbium laser and low-molecular-weight varnishes. Experimental research conducted at FORTH-IESL in Crete evaluated the most suitable laser wavelengths for different oxalate conditions.
